Ma. Estela Calixto is a Professor-Researcher at the Institute of Physics of BUAP.  Her research interests include semiconductors, spray pyrolysis, electrochemistry, thin film materials processing, material characterization, solar cells and electrodeposition of photonic crystals and their applications. She has published several refereed papers on the area of semiconductor thin film for photovoltaic applications and also the co-author of a USA patent on the electrodeposition of CIGS thin films and their application on photovoltaic devices, which is directly relevant to this programme.  Her expertise in electrochemical deposition will complement the proposed exchange project, specifically in WP2, WP4 and WP9.

Expertise and human resources: The Applied Physics (AP) group at the Physics Institute-UAP comprises of 4 full time professors, one technician and 5 graduate students. The AP group has expertise in the synthesis, characterization and the study of semiconductors and porous silicon electrochemical etching for optoelectronic and solar cell applications as well as in the study and modelling of materials with photonic and phononic properties. The group has expertise in the use of techniques such as cathodic electrodeposition, chemical bath deposition and spray pyrolisis for preparation of semiconductor thin films, such as CuInSe2, CuInGaSe2, CdTe, CdS, Sn2S3, AgInS2 with different physical and chemical properties for solar cells applications. There are several materials characterization techniques and people with the required training to use these equipments.

Infrastructure and facilities description: Chalcopyrite thin film materials like CuInSe2, CuInGaSe2 and CdTe can be prepared at the Laboratory of Electrochemical Processes for Semiconductors by cathodic electrodeposition from acidic aqueous baths, In2S3 and AgInS2 semiconductor thin films can be prepared by the spray pyrolisis technique as well as transparent conductor oxides such as ZnO and ZnO:Al thin films. ZnS, CdS buffer layers can be prepared by the chemical bath deposition technique. Facilities related to deposition techniques include two programmable power sources with different ranges of current for deposition and fully automated electrochemical etching processes. There are several pieces of equipment for optical characterization, including reflection, transmission and photoluminescence for a wide temperature range. There are several techniques for solid state characterization like X-ray diffraction, Raman, SEM/EDS, AFM and several optical microscopes are among the facilities available by the AP group at the Instituto de Fisica-AUP.
